Biography

For over 30 years, Roger Blane has provided practical representation for individuals and businesses in various phases of the tax controversy process. The majority of these matters take place before the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the New York City Department of Finance. Roger’s practice includes addressing audits of individual clients’ residency status, allocation of income, credits, tax collections, voluntary disclosure and offer-in-compromise, as well as the representation of businesses in sales and use tax planning and audits, excise tax audits, apportionment of income, nexus status, combination, credits and tax collections.

Prior to joining Hutton Solomon & Blane in 1995, Roger practiced with Gold & Wachtel LLP (now known as Wachtel Missry LLP), a mid-size law firm specializing in federal tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Tax Court. Before entering the legal community, Roger worked in the tax department of a Big 4 accounting firm. Roger’s federal tax experience, combined with his accounting background, has provided a foundation that has benefited his clients during his 25 years with Hutton Solomon & Blane. The combination of Roger’s legal and accounting experience enables him to take a hands-on approach in working with clients’ financial information and the application of the tax law.

Roger also assists clients in the planning phase of transactions, voluntary disclosure applications to tax authorities, requests for advisory opinions, the administrative appeals process and tax litigation. He frequently lectures for various organizations in the area of state and local taxation, and has authored articles for industry-specific and general publications.
